  • Agricultural Injury Surveillance I: Farm Fatality Statistics 1996-2000
Farming in New York is a dangerous occupation. NYCAMH gathers epidemiological information to help us understand more about what happens when a farm fatality occurs. We use this knowledge to aid us in our prevention and education efforts.

These statistics are presented here as a series of graphs which illustrate the mechanism involved in farm fatalities, age and sex of the victim, and time trends. The fatalities reported in this study occurred in New York between 1996-2000. Tractors were the leading source of all fatalities.

  • Increasing Access to Rollover Protective Structures and Reducing Rollover Risk Exposures in the New York Farming Community
For the past two years, NEC/NYCAMH researchers have been working closely with the farming community and farming organizations to understand the issues they involved in retrofitting unprotected tractors in New York. Interviews, focus groups and a survey have been completed and New York farmers have offered many fruitful suggestions on ways to make retrofitting easier and more accessible. Work towards incentives and means to share rollover risk information with the farming community will be ongoing for the next few years.
