S.AG.E. - Preventing Collisions - Driving Any Vehicle

by Dan West

From Fall 2000 - Volume 3, Number 1

Drive defensively, at an appropriate speed for conditions (usually slower than you think).

Know what a Slow Moving Vehicle emblem looks like.

  • The flourescent center triangle glows in the daylight.

  • The red hollow triangular edges reflect light back to its source at night.

Know what it means.

  • The machine ahead is moving very slowly - less than 25 mph.

  • You must slow quickly to avoid hitting it.

Don't try to pass it until you can see how big it is and that it is safe to.

Look for SMV emblems on rural roads and near road construction sites.
